Steve Terrill was raised in
Bedford Virginia. At the age of 16 he began to learn Woody Guthrie
songs from his High School Latin teacher on the guitar. That
same teacher gave Steve his first exposure to Old Time music
in 1987, at the Rockbridge Mountain Music festival. Soon after
arriving in Greensboro, North Carolina to attend college he
began playing in his first string band Auntie Emma & the
Romp Stompers. Within a few years he began playing banjo and
later the fiddle. Steve is the founding member Sissy T and the
Grown Ups, the first string band for many young old time musicians
including Cary Fridley and Ketch Secore of The
Old Crow Medicine Show. He is an avid collector of southern
recordings & devotes much time to sharing his love of Old
Time music with others. Steve recently completed the third
season of the Carolina Roots Series at Guilford College, and
CEO of the international media conglomerate Old
97 Wrecords.
A Greensboro resident for over a decade, supporting his music
habit with works as a web designer.
